About Baraphrase
This is a side project by me, Jon. I’m a marketing person but I enjoy stretching my legs technically.
There’s two things you should know about me:
- I hate voice notes
- I live and work in multi-lingual, multi-cultural settings
So I decided to build myself something that could help with both of these things, by quickly allowing me to transcribe, translate and summarize voice notes I receive in any language.
Several people asked me for access to it, so I decided to launch it publicly to help people in the same situation. Baraphrase now has over 1,000 users, processing hours of voice notes every day.
Why is it free?
For three reasons:
- It costs very little to run (on average €10 per month)
- I don’t want to have to deal with payment processing services
- The web is over-monetized and I wanted to create something that just provides a simple service, for free, without demanding all your personal data
So my plan is to offer Baraphrase for free, without limits, for as long as possible. However there are some caveats to this.
- If you’re using it to batch-process audio or for things it’s not designed to do – especially if it degrades the service for other people – I’ll probably ban you. Some examples of things that have got people banned previously:
- Adding Baraphrase Transcribe to a music sharing Telegram group to create automated transcripts of every song uploaded to the group
- An OnlyFans model using Baraphrase to summarize all the lustly voice notes her subscribers were sending
- Someone uploading hundreds of 2-3 second audio files for transcription in bulk
- If Baraphrase grows to a point where the monthly infrastructure costs are on the larger side, I may implement daily limits for all users
